Jackie Janicki – (Chair)
Originally from New Jersey, Jacqueline (Jackie) has lived in Newport County for more than 50 years. A resident of Portsmouth, she graduated from Salve Regina with a BS in Nursing and received her Masters degree in Nursing Education from University of Rhode Island. Her area of nursing expertise is in Hospice and Palliative Care, having served as a Director of Hospice services and other management positions in several hospice and home care agencies. In addition, Jackie taught in the Nursing Department at Salve Regina University for 11 years, retiring in 2016. There she developed a course in Aging and End of Life for senior level students and designed and coordinated a short term travel abroad course for nursing students to Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Jackie is married to David Janicki and together they raised three children. They have six grandchildren who are the light of their lives and with whom they enjoy spending time. In addition to their family, Jackie enjoys traveling, quilting, and reading. Her interest in older adults and end of life care has been a longstanding part of her nursing practice and informs her participation on the St. Clare Advisory Board. She currently serves as Chair of the Advisory Board.
Honorable Colleen Hastings
John Finn, CLU, ChFC
Since 1986 John Finn has helped people plan for their retirement goals. He spent eleven years at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company developing his practice in the areas of retirement, estate and business planning. He later built a financial services operation at Braman and White and pioneered the integration of this department with BankNewport. John became affiliated with LPL Financial in 1997 and became and independent broker in 2002. John provides unbiased, independent advice after completing a methodical, rigorous process that seeks to deliver a high degree of predictability. He works diligently with his clients to try to improve the overall quality of their lives. Our goal is that they feel confident knowing their financial house is in order and that we will help them stay on track. “We have one purpose and that is to build relationships with our clients based on our core beliefs of integrity, honesty, and perseverance” states John. To deliver on that purpose, he has combined a capable support staff with the technology, resources, and expertise of LPL Financial. John resides in Middletown, Rhode Island with his wife Linda and two teenage children, Phoebe and Jack. He serves on the Pension Advisory Committee for the Town of Middletown and the Newport County YMCA Board of Directors. He is a Senior Warden at the Berkeley Memorial Chapel at St. Columba and coaches Breakers Youth Lacrosse on Aquidneck Island.
William J Flynn (Vice Chair)
William J Flynn, CPA, graduated from Providence College in 1971 with a BS in Accounting and received his Masters Degree in Accounting from the University of Rhode Island in 1981. He worked in the banking industry for 20 years and was a Senior Vice President and Senior Commercial Loan Officer for a medium sized bank in Massachusetts before leaving to start his own accounting firm, Mr. Flynn started Flynn Financial Group Inc a company that specializes in strategic tax planning for individuals and businesses as well as specializing in helping to find workout solutions and business financing for his Bank clients. He was instrumental in helping the first Co-Operative Bank in Massachusetts become a Certified SBA Lender. Mr. Flynn is also retired from the military after a twenty four year career with the Army Reserves.
Michael F. Sabatino
Michael F. Sabatino is the Chief Financial Officer for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. He has served the Diocese of Providence, RI, since 1991. Beginning as an Internal Auditor, he became Chief Financial Office in 2001. Prior to joining the diocese, Mr. Sabatino was employed with two public accounting firms. His main focus was on audit and tax issues relating to entrepreneurial and small companies with revenues less than $10 million. He also worked closely with banking and commercial institutions concerning the business needs of those clients. Mr. Sabatino holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant. He participated and graduated from the Leadership Rhode Island program in 1999. He has served and continues to serve on many non-profit boards and he is currently the Treasurer of Fusionworks, a non-profit modern dance company that performs throughout the Northeast.
Harry Winthrop
Harry Winthrop was Mayor of Newport from 2012 to 2014 and served on the City Council from 1990-95 and 2011-14. He was the Director of Planning for Submarine Design and Construction at Electric Boat in Groton, CT from 1974 to 2007, and was a consultant to the defense industry from 2007-2014. Most recently, he was Senior Director of Business Development at Pegasus Steel in Charleston, SC.
A lifelong Newporter, Winthrop graduated from De La Salle Academy and Rhode Island College. He currently serves on the State Labor Relations Board.
M. Teresa Paiva-Weed
Teresa Paiva Weed is the president of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island. Prior to her role at HARI, Teresa was president of the Rhode Island Senate for eight years. Teresa was first elected to the Rhode Island Senate in 1992. During her time as a legislator, she was a major developer of the RIteCare program, lead sponsor of legislation creating CurrentCare, and played a key role in several important public health bills including mental health, substance abuse, and lead poisoning. She is also an independent legal practitioner.
Teresa received a juris doctor degree from Catholic University – Columbus School of Law and bachelor’s degree from Providence College. She has been recognized by the National Association of Social Workers, Rhode Island Center for Hispanic Policy and Advocacy, Rhode Island Council of Community Health Centers, Community Provider Network, The United Way, American Heart Association and the Rhode Island Department of Health Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program.
